Remove visible sun and age spots effectively, comfortably, and safely
with Dr. Lantry's gentle, pulsed-light laser treatments. Pigmented
spots (on virtually any part of your body) absorb the laser's visible
light; the heating of these pigmented cells causes the therapeutic
effect.
Face, chest, shoulders, and arms are the most popular areas for
treatment because they typically have had the most exposure to the
sun. Both discrete spots and skin densely covered with freckles
respond well to treatment.
Treatments last only a few minutes. When the hand piece is placed
on your skin, it will feel cool and comfortable. When the pulse
of light is delivered, you may feel a mild brief pinching sensation.
There is no need to apply gel or any topical anesthetic, however.
Immediately following the treatment, the spots may darken. You may
notice a slight reddening of the surrounding skin. This typically
subsides within a couple of hours. Over the course of the next one
to three weeks, darkened spots will fade and flake off.
Typically, one or two treatments are sufficient for dramatic results.
Additional treatments may be required for very large or dark spots
or densely covered areas. The spots should not reappear over
time. New spots may appear, however; these, too, can be removed.
Remember to liberally apply sunscreen to minimize sun damage and
the appearance of new spots.
This laser therapy basically focuses on spots formed by sun exposure.
There are other types of pigmented lesions such as birthmarks and
moles. We will help you to identify the spots that are most likely
to respond well to treatment.
